A visit to the world-famous Waitomo limestone formations and cave systems to see the shimmering lights of thousands of tiny glow-worms is a magical subterranean experience. The Arachnocampa luminosa glow-worm is unique to New Zealand. Hundreds of limestone caves lie beneath the craggy King Country hillside. Created by geological and volcanic activity, the caves have evolved over 30 million years. The area originally lay on the seabed and over millions of years became caked with shells and marine skeletons. The movement of water reduced this matter to dust which set hard, in the process creating limestone.

Itinerary

7:45am Rotorua Hotel transfer with JSDG.

8:20am Depart Rotorua for Hamilton with Intercity Coachlines. Clients are given a full commentary sheet relevant information, facts, timings etc. in Japanese.

9:50am Transfer from Hamilton coach to Waitomo coach with JSDG.

10:00am Depart for Waitomo.

10:45am Arrive at Big Apple Orchard. Passengers have opportunity to browse around the orchard shop. Any purchases – own expense.

11:15am Visit Glow Worm Caves.

11:30am Arrive at Roselands Farm Restaurant for a barbecue style lunch.

12:30pm Visit Waitomo Glow Worm Caves.

1:30pm Depart Waitomo.

3:00pm Afternoon tea stop at Riverhaven (own expense).

3:15pm Depart Huntly.

4:15pm Arrive in Auckland. Hotel drop-offs commence.
