The cemetery of Lytschkiv is one of the oldest graveyards in Europe, dating from 1567. Lviv's most prominent graveyard now is an open air museum and more than that: a "gallery of art work", showing graves of many renowned personalities of the Ukrainian and polish culture and sciennces, like Iwan Franko, Solomija Kruschelnyzka, Volodymyr Ivasjuk, Markijan Schaschkevytsch, Gabriela Zapolska, Stefan Banach, Maria Konopnicka and many others.
