The San Juan archipelago harbors near-mythical beauty amid its undeveloped islands and seascapes. Travel from Seattle to Anacortes, where you’ll hop on a ferry to cruise through scenic waterways to San Juan Island. The largest island in the chain, San Juan is adorned with placid farms, state parks that perch over striking coastline, and the sailboats and seafood spots of charming Friday Harbor.

Upon arrival at the island you’ll trade the ferry for a kayak and embark on a 3-hour paddling excursion with your naturalist guide. Glide over underwater kelp forests, smell the salt of the sea air, feel the coarse exterior of a seastar as you explore a tidal pool, and keep your eyes peeled for the massive orcas that call these waters home. Reenergize mid-kayak with a gourmet picnic lunch on Posey Island.

After kayaking you’ll experience San Juan by land, searching for more whales under the gaze of the old lighthouse at Lime Kiln State Park and strolling in the wildflower meadows of the Colonial American Camp. Meander through the floral scents of the Pelindaba Lavender farm or grab freshly-caught fish and chips in Friday Harbor before returning to Seattle.

Hours of operation

Available daily departing at 6:30am. No tour departures on: Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year’s Day. Kayaking is available May-October only.

Tour is approximately 14.5 hours.

Location

We are able to pick up at any hotel or location in Downtown Seattle – North of King Street, South of Roy Street, and West of Interstate 5. Guests staying outside of this zone will be picked-up at the Hotel Monaco (1101 4th Avenue, Seattle, WA).

Participant restrictions

Children under 6 require a safety seat, which the client must provide and install.

Policies

Cancellation: 60+ days prior 10% penalty, 59 days prior 50% penalty, 30 days prior 100% penalty. No show 100% penalty.

Inclement weather may cancel our paddle and would be replaced by additional sightseeing and interpretive beach walks, or perhaps a sculpture park and winery depending on the escape!
