Highlights / General details
Approximately 250 kilometers from Puerto Iguassu, San Ignacio Mini was one of the most prosperous Jesuit missions, now partly restored by the Argentine Government.
San Ignacio Mini was founded in 1610 in the Guaira area (currently the state bordering between Parana and Sao Paulo, Brazil). Fathers Jose Cataldino and Simon Masseta built this mission and the mission of Loreto near the Paranapanema River.
Next we will travel to a bed of semi-precious stones. Hundreds of years ago in this region, the lava rose through fissures in the earth. This lava full of many materials rose with such pressure that it bubbled. The quick cooling of the lava created crystals, all of them in pyramidal hexagonal shapes made of amethyst quartz and agates which are used in jewelry.
