Itinerary

Day 1: MUSCAT - JEBEL AKHDAR - NIZWA.

We will start the tour to Jebel Akhdar & Nizwa – approximately 250 km. The mountain is leading since it refers to a large part of the Hajar mountains and range from the north of Nizwa, including Jebel Shams, Wafi Bani Awf and the Saiq plateau. The cooler climate allows the growth of all type of crops which grow nowhere else. Peaches, pomegranates, abricots, figs, grapes, apples, plums and pears are grown on the mountain from July to September. The fruit orchards are typically laid out in terraces along the mountain slopes and irrigated by a traditional system of open and underground water channels known as falaj. Lunch on the mountain.

Then we will proceed to Nizwa, which is set in an important date palm oasis at the foot of the Hajar Mountains. Dinner and Overnight in Nizwa.

Day 2: NIZWA - JABREEN FORT - MUSCAT.

After breakfast, we will start with the visit of Nizwa, that was occupying a strategic crossroads on the caravan routes. It became the capital of Oman in the 6th century and is still the key town of the interior. Nizwa has a famous souk, which is especially busy on Friday morning, market day. Next to the souk is Nizwa fort and the new Sultan Qaboos mosque. It was restored in the 1980s and is open to the public. The views from the top of the round tower, over the town and oasis, are stupendous. Lunch in the city.

In the afternoon we will pass by Al Hamra and its traditional irrigation system, the BAHLA fort (under renovation) and will visit the famous JABREEN fort before we head back to Muscat (200 km).
