Highlights / General details
In the early 1920s, Wilshire Boulevard west of Western Ave. was an unpaved farm road, extending through dairy farms and bean fields. Later it was integrated into the Pacific Electric Railroad System. A Developer, A. W. Ross, saw potential for the area and developed Wilshire as a commercial district to rival downtown Los Angeles. A historical context preceding the development of the Miracle was the displacement of the Los Angeles Jewish community by restrictive rental and ownership opportunities in downtown and prestigious neighborhoods. The rest is history.
The old May Co. building, now LACMA West, marks the western border of Miracle Mile's "Museum Row". Ross's moves were unprecedented, a huge commercial success. As wealth and newcomers poured into the fast-growing city, Ross's parcel was named "Miracle Mile" for its improbable rise to prominence.
On this tour, we ride past the museums of Museum Row and beneath the towering glory of the great buildings on The Miracle Mile. The Segway ride is a blast of combined with our tour experience. Come and see just why everyone is talking about this Segway Tour.
