Highlights / General details
Discover it in a thrilling hike to the crater of the Izalco Volcano. If you like extreme sports and ecotourism definitely this is your tour. We arrived at the Cerro Verde National Park to begin the walk, Izalco is one of the youngest volcanoes in the Americas, originated in the year 1770. For 196 years the volcano erupted almost continuously, and these eruptions were seen from the ocean, earning him the nickname of "Lighthouse of the Pacific." It last erupted in 1966, and since then there has been a gradual decrease in its activity. It is situated 8½ kilometers northeast of the town of Izalco. Its perfect cone is characterized by the lack of vegetation and some slopes are up to 45 degrees, representing a tough challenge for even the most experienced climbers.
