Benito Amilcare Andrea Mussolini, teacher, politician, journalist, leader of the National Fascist Party, Dictator and Prime Minister of Italy until his ousting in 1943. We all know his mark on history, but what about his private life? Where did he live? What was it like to be in his presence?

In 1925 Mussolini was invited by Prince Torlonia to stay in his residence, designed by the architect Valadier, for just one lira a year. Mussolini and his family lived in the neoclassic Villa until 1943, while the Prince Torlonia resided on the grounds in the Casino delle Civette. We visit the Villa passing through painted marble decorated rooms and bedrooms where he received Walt Disney, and pause in the ballroom where Mussolini gave a party for Mahatma Gandhi in 1931.

Then we take a stroll through the recently restored park, to see the tennis court where the Dictator use to play with ambassadors and members of the Gran Consiglio, the freshly restored Theatre, the kitchen-garden of his wife Rachele. We also see the gardens where his daughter’s wedding took place. Quoting lines from the diary of Mussolini’s daughter, with anecdotes and stories being told in his private home, will help you learn about the other side of Mussolini: as a father as well as a husband. From the diary of his wife Rachele will learn of Mussolini’s last days in Rome.
