Once the home of Winchester Rifle Heiress Sarah Winchester, today this 160 room Victorian Mansion and its many building oddities including doors opening onto blank walls and staircases going nowhere contain many hidden secrets. Did Mrs. Winchester believe the spirits of those killed by the Winchester Rifle were haunting her? Why?

Tour this once eight room farm house that was continuously built onto for 38 years and today is a 160 room Victorian mansion. The mansion contains beautiful Tiffany Art Glass Windows and some of the finest furnishing around were used in the construction of the mansion. Mrs. Winchester spared no expense, she had an inheritance of $1,000 a day in the 1800s (tax free) and she used the finest building materials to construct her home.

160 rooms; 40 bedrooms; 10,000 panes of glass; 47 fireplaces; 17 chimneys; two basements; three elevators; 13 bathrooms and only one shower!

Tour departs from Union Square/Downtown San Francisco at 478 Post Street (between Mason & Powell Street) across the street from the Westin St. Francis Hotel. Shuttle available from 2800 Leavenworth Street (Fisherman's Wharf) to 478 Post Street at 45 minutes prior to tour departure time.

Hotel pick up only available for guests staying outside walking distance to departure location.

Additional Information:

Buses are air conditioned and the size of the bus depends on the number of passengers booked for that particular day. There are 28, 39, 47, and 56 seat vehicles used for this tour.

All buses equipped with restrooms.

Participant restrictions

Because of the historical landmark status the mansion is not wheelchair accessible but the Victorian Gardens are.
