Highlights / General details
Laid out in the shape of a bow and arrow, also described as a bird in flight or an airplane, Brasília was planned for only 500,000 inhabitants. However, the city has seen its population grow rapidly to over 2 million, several satellite towns having been built over the years to house the extra inhabitants.
This half-day city excursion takes in the splendidly decorated Dom Bosco Sanctuary, the Blue Church (one of the world's most modern churches) and the Juscelino Kubitschek Memorial (dedicated to the president who brought the capital to the center of the country). The tour then visits the administrative, residential, commercial and cultural sectors of the city, plus the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry. Other attractions include the Nossa Senhora de Fátima church; the spectacular Acoustic Bandstand and two other Oscar Niemeyer projects. One of Brasília's landmarks, the Metropolitan Cathedral has sixteen curved columns and a stained-glass interior with four large statues beside the entrance.
The tour then proceeds to the TV Tower - offering tourists a panoramic view of the city - and ends with a visit to the Alvorada Palace - the official residence of the President. Lunch is included.
