Highlights / General details
Tamandaré Beach is a favorite among the people of Pernambuco - and with good reason! For most of the year (apart from December to February) this tropical palm-fringed beach with white sand and warm, crystal-clear waters is a quiet hideaway - everything one would expect from a tropical paradise. A walk north along the beach leads to Praia Dos Carneiros, situated on a mangrove-fringed estuary at the mouth of the Rio Formoso. Here lunch is served in a charming open-air restaurant in a coconut grove right by the beach. The road to Tamandaré leads through Saltinho Biological Reserve, the largest remnant of Pernambuco's Atlantic Rainforest, where a brief stop is made so you can climb the steep slope down to the base of a charming little waterfall, a favorite bathing spot for local people. Locally produced handicrafts can be bought at the Casa do Artesão (Craftsman's House) by the old meat market.
