Tenryuji Temple: This intriguing shrine is ranked as the largest Zen monastery in western Japan, with 120 sub-temples. This temple is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy the temple’s exquisite pond garden.

Sagano Bamboo Grove: This is Arashiyama’s famous bamboo forest. Walk this 100-meter serene path and experience the Zen as you walk through the shadows and sunlight as it peers through the bamboo.

Jojakkoji Temple: This temple is considered one of the best temples in Kyoto. The temple was established in the 16th century and is known for its quiet and sacred atmosphere.

Togetsu Bridge: This bridge has been a landmark of Arashiyama for over 400 years. The wooden bridge spans the Katsura River in front of the Arashiyama Mountain, offering incredible views. The bridge has been used in historical films. It is also a popular place for feeding koi (carp) which live in the river.

Itinerary

Start the afternoon by meeting your guide at the Nippon Travel Agency office within the Kyoto Station. Take the JR line from the Kyoto station to the JR Saga Arashiyama Station. Visit to one of the Kyoto’s best Zen temples Tenryuji Temple and enjoy the beautiful landscape garden.

Next, make your way to the Sagano Bamboo Grove and take a walk through the bamboo forest and you soak in the Zen.

Next, walk to the 16th century Jojakkoji Temple and stroll and enjoy one of Kyoto’s best temples.

Next, take a 30 min scenic walk to the Togetsu Bridge and enjoy the magnificent view from the bridge. Maybe even feed the koi as you walk across this wooden bridge.

Finish the day by returning to the Kyoto station by JR and the tour disbands at the Kyoto station.

We suggest wearing comfortable clothing and comfortable shoes as this is a walking tour (about 5km or 3.11 miles).
